Bank provides £1.5m loan for major tennis club refurbishment

Charity Bank has provided a £1.5m loan to a tennis club in order for it to improve its facilities.

Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club (ILTSC) completed the £2.4m refurbishment, which was financed by the Lawn Tennis Association, Sport England, club members and the loan from Charity Bank.

The refurbishment has provided the club with a new clubhouse, entrance, gymnasium, two fitness studios, refurbished car park as well as an extended café bar.

“We couldn’t have completed this ambitious renovation project without the loan from Charity Bank filling the funding gap,” stated Charlie Maunder, General Manager of ILTSC.

The Yorkshire club plays host to the Aegon Ilkley Trophy, which is a grass-court practice event held just before the start of Wimbledon.

“The club is going from strength to strength and we feel proud to be the hosts of such a prestigious event,” Charlie added.

Jeremy Ince, Regional Manager at Charity Bank, added: “The loan to expand the gym capacity and add a new fitness studio to provide an updated, high-quality facility befits the standing of the club as a centre of excellence.

“The local community will benefit enormously from these vastly improved facilities and the club will be able to attract more visitors into the area to help support the local economy.”
