Multi-million pound sports stadium redevelopment step closer

Heart of Midlothian Football Club has revealed it has moved closer to renovating its stadium after submitting plans to the local council.

The Scottish Premier League football club plans to redevelop the main stand at its Tynecastle stadium.

Plans to increase the stadium to a capacity of just under 21,000 have been submitted to the Edinburgh Council Planning Department.

The application follows a public consultation process that has been carried out in recent months.

Hearts FC has also been granted planning permission for the redevelopment of the Wheatfield Stand Undercroft, which will see the construction of a new clubstore, ticket centre and admin offices.

In May, Hearts FC revealed that over 50% of funding for the new main stand was already in place with the estimated cost expected to reach £11-12m.

If permission is granted, Hearts FC expects the newly developed stand to be completed by September 2017.
