Balfour launches £300m M&E engineering arm

Balfour Beatty has combined two of its engineering branches into a circa £300m revenue business.

Balfour’s Engineering Services and Engineering Construction businesses have merged to form mechanical and electrical engineering specialist Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick.

The 2,200-strong firm will be led by managing director Simon Lafferty, who brings over 30 years’ experience in the mechanical and electrical sectors.

Simon said: “This move will deliver real benefits for our customers as well as ensuring that we continue to attract and retain the best talent across our industry by offering exceptional and diverse opportunities to work across our sectors.

“Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick will be one of the largest organisations of its type in the UK, offering a range of services and capabilities unique in the mechanical and electrical market.”

Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick will service a range of sectors, including nuclear, infrastructure, transport and residential and commercial markets.

The firm’s current portfolio includes work on the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers project, Crossrail’s Woolwich and Whitechapel stations and the Gatwick Airport Framework.

Dean Banks, managing director of UK construction services at Balfour Beatty, added: “The mechanical and electrical engineering sector is dynamic and requires breadth and depth of expertise, quality of delivery and significant capability.

“This move ensures we can fully leverage the huge experience and unrivalled scale we have within Balfour Beatty.”
