JD Wetherspoon Pub

UK pub giant to sell off more properties

JD Wetherspoon has announced plans to sell a further five of its pubs, bringing the total number available on the market to 26.

In May, the chain announced it was planning to offload 45 pubs, which were available either individually, in small packages or as a portfolio.

CBRE and Savills have been appointed to sell the remaining properties, which comprise 11 freehold/long leaseholds and 15 free of tie leases.

The pubs are all located in town and city-centre locations across the UK.

A spokesperson for Savills and CBRE said it had been delighted by the success of the earlier sales programme, which saw pubs sold in recent months to key operators such as Amber Taverns, Urban Pubs & Bars, Stonegate and Hawthorn Leisure.

“The mix of freehold and leasehold properties gives the portfolio a broad appeal making them suitable for a wide range of investors.

“In addition, the high level of JD Wetherspoon’s initial capital expenditure has already been recognised with one recent buyer commenting that it allowed them to fit out for a fraction of the usual costs and time, helping them to refocus the operational style of these properties and be up and trading very swiftly.”
