This service is designed to detect property fraud by sending emails to people when suspicious activity is identified on their property, such as when a mortgage is taken out against the house being monitored.
Applicants can have up to 10 different properties registered in England and Wales for monitoring.
The registry has detailed that properties that are rented out, empty, mortgage free or not registered with the Land Registry are most at risk from fraud.
The alert service does not stop fraud from taking place, but informs property owners so they can act appropriately.
Since 2009, the Land Registry has prevented fraud on £92m worth of property and runs a database of 24 million titles.
Alasdair Lewis, director of Legal Services, said: “Property is usually our most valuable asset, so it’s important to protect it from the ever-increasing risk of fraud.
“Land Registry is doing all it can to detect and prevent fraud, but no system can be 100% fraud-proof, which is why we urge people to follow our advice about protecting themselves from property fraud, including signing up for Property Alert.”
You can sign up to the service on the government website.
