Rugby club seeks planning permission for relocation

A rugby club has announced it has submitted its relocation proposals for planning approval to build a new ground as its current location will be used for HS2.

Old Saltleians RFC submitted the plans to North Warwickshire Borough Council for approval, but the club is unlikely to hear a decision until February or March.

However, the legal agreement between HS2 and Old Saltleians is at an advanced stage of preparation.

The agreement includes the acquisition of a new site in Coleshill Road/Vicarage Lane and Gypsy Lane, the site layout and a new clubhouse.

The club’s existing ground at Gilson Road/Watton Lane is to be used to form the HS2 Birmingham link from south and north, known as the Delta Junction.

Old Saltleians revealed it would be surrendering its land to HS2 three years ago.

The club’s current ground is set to be subject to considerable disruption over the next two years as the National Grid undertakes major mains diversions.

Detailed design work on the new site is to commence shortly, while the relocation development is subject to continuous detailed and regular approval.
