Wood Green to undergo £3.5bn redevelopment

London’s Haringey Council has unveiled plans for a £3.5bn redevelopment scheme in the Wood Green shopping area.

If approved, the 15-year project would create a new town centre complete with 60,000 sq ft of new employment space, 4,000 jobs and 7,800 new homes.

The proposals are now set to undergo consultation with local businesses, residents and community groups between 7th February and 14th March.

Cllr Joe Goldberg, Haringey Council cabinet member for economic development, social inclusion and sustainability, said: “We are working around the clock to deliver the changes our residents tell us they want to see in Wood Green.

“Haringey is the future of London and the transformation of Wood Green would give more of our residents opportunities and a quality of life at least equal to that of the best in the city.

“We want to make Wood Green one the best places to work, shop, eat and drink in London.”

The redevelopment – planned around a Crossrail 2 station – would include pedestrian and other transport links between Wood Green town centre and Alexandra Palace.

Regeneration in the area has already started with the opening of the UK’s first arts hotel, bar and exhibition space in June 2015.

Work is also underway to convert a disused council staff car park into an artistic hub and café.

This comes as part of wider plans to redevelop underused sites into new workspaces and offices for local and London-based businesses.
