Retirement housebuilder reveals most popular seaside town

Salcombe in Devon has been voted the most popular seaside town in the UK among retirement home buyers, according to a new survey.

Retirement housebuilder McCarthy & Stone surveyed 2,700 of its customers and followers to find out which are the most popular seaside towns.

Almost a fifth (18.5%) of those surveyed voted for Salcombe as their top destination, followed by Weymouth in Dorset (16.1%) and Whitby in North Yorkshire (12%).

The top 10 is:

  1. Salcombe, Devon – 18.5%
  2. Weymouth, Dorset – 16.1%
  3. Whitby, North Yorkshire – 12%
  4. St Ives, Cornwall – 11.7%
  5. Bamburgh, Northumberland – 10.4%
  6. Cromer, Norfolk – 9.1%
  7. Shanklin, Isle of Wight – 6.2%
  8. Deal, Kent – 5.9%
  9. Worthing, West Sussex – 5.7%
  10. Hastings, East Sussex – 3.9%
