The new-build scheme is located at the university’s Talybont campus and will provide approximately 725 residences.
Completion is scheduled for the start of the 2020 academic year.
The project forms part of Cardiff University’s wider campus redevelopment programme, which will deliver an additional 1,310 residential spaces by 2022.
The new student campus is expected to be made up of six-bed clusters, and will potentially use off-site construction techniques to speed up the building process.

Gleeds will provide project management services for the scheme under a sole consultant arrangement, which also includes the appointment of the design team and cost consultant.
Simon Williams, Gleeds director in Wales, said: “With our strong track record in the higher education sector, we feel we are best placed to deliver on the university’s aspirations for this exciting on-campus, new-build scheme.
“Creating access to cutting-edge facilities is crucial to keeping universities competitive, but it’s also vital to encourage more students to the area in order to help support the local workforce and economy in the years to come.”
