Wates Group to renovate Parliament's northern estate

The Wates Group has been appointed as framework contractor for the renovation of a number of buildings on Parliament’s northern estate.

The family-owned construction, development and property services company will carry out essential refurbishment work to restore and protect listed buildings in Westminster, including Norman Shaw North and South, 1 Parliament Street and 1 Derby Gate.

The project will increase the amount of office space and reduce the running costs as well as improve environmental performance, safety and accessibility.

The programme is expected to provide 160 apprenticeships along with a commitment to invest £1m in social enterprises.

Paul Chandler, group managing director at Wates Construction, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen to deliver this nationally significant and exciting programme of work on the Parliamentary estate and look forward to continuing our successful relationship with Parliament.”

The work is expected to begin in 2019.
