The figure was revealed by the Greater London Authority following a freedom of information request made by Development Finance Today.
The total was calculated by comparing the residential planning approvals between 1st April 2013 and 31st March 2018 in the London Development Database with boundaries provided by Transport for London for the travelcard zones.
- Planning expert welcomes higher housing targets for outer London
- Planning permissions granted for over 350,000 homes in 2017
- Do developers want to build in zones 5 and 6?
Development Finance Today submitted the request following the revelation from a planning expert that just 3,000 homes were delivered in zones 5-6 during 2017.
Research by London First and Grant Thornton also showed that across 2017, zones 1-3 built three-quarters of London’s new homes [circa 19,000].
