52,800 homes granted planning in zones 5-6 in last five years

A total of 52,800 homes have been granted planning permission in travelcard zones 5-6 in the last five years.

The figure was revealed by the Greater London Authority following a freedom of information request made by Development Finance Today.

The total was calculated by comparing the residential planning approvals between 1st April 2013 and 31st March 2018 in the London Development Database with boundaries provided by Transport for London for the travelcard zones.

Development Finance Today submitted the request following the revelation from a planning expert that just 3,000 homes were delivered in zones 5-6 during 2017.

Research by London First and Grant Thornton also showed that across 2017, zones 1-3 built three-quarters of London’s new homes [circa 19,000].
