Outside of older casework, the executive agency is currently seeing cases determined in median timescales of around 22 weeks.
The Planning Inspectorate implemented an initial recruitment exercise in November 2018 to bring new inspectors into the organisation.

Based on a new model of decision making, more experienced inspectors made formal decisions which saw over 80 new inspectors and appeals planning officers join the organisation.
The recruitment of permanent staff was also supplemented through the use of more non-salaried inspectors.
New planning appeals are now being assigned to an inspector within a median timescale of under four weeks, compared to the high of 13 weeks witnessed before the recruitment process.
