HTL.tech secures approval for 3D concrete printed social housing development

Harcourt Technologies Ltd (HTL.tech) has secured approval from London Building Control for the first 3D concrete printed (3DCP) social housing development in the UK.

London Building Control has granted HTL.tech part A structural approval for the build, which the firm characterised as a ‘huge step forward’ for the deployment of 3DCP technology in the UK.

The proposed development – a collaboration between HTL.tech, Harcourt Architects, and Lindsay Baxter Design – is set to become the first 3DCP residential project in the UK.

The company said the 3DCP technology has been in development for the last 18 months with the aim of an eventual commercial rollout across the UK.

HTL.tech said it hopes the proposed development will demonstrate the advantages of 3DCP technology as a viable, cost-effective, and sustainable solution to the housing crisis.

Justin Kinsella, CEO at HTL.tech, remarked: “Harcourt Technologies Ltd’s core objective is to develop the use of 3DCP to create less wasteful and more sustainable building solutions which harness the benefits of advanced manufacturing technology to provide affordable, higher quality structures, faster and more reliably and in an environmentally beneficial manner.

“Our mission is to create truly affordable housing, and a sustainable housing system that can offer individuals access to stable, environmentally efficient and secure housing all whilst uplifting them through skills training.

“The Charter Street development presented itself as the perfect project to showcase the efficiency, value and quality of 3DCP and how it can be harnessed to help tackle the housing crisis and give inhabitants a home to be proud of.”
