Its subsidiary, Rydon Maintenance Ltd, is one of the firms investigated in relation to the refurbishment of Grenfell Tower — for which it was the lead contractor — and the subsequent fire which occurred in June 2017.

Since the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) wrote to major housebuilders and other large developers on 30th January this year, 50 developer firms have signed the developer remediation contracts which requires them to take responsibility for all necessary repairs to buildings of 11 metres and over in height they developed or refurbished in England over the past 30 years.

It also requires developers to reimburse taxpayers where public money has been used to fix unsafe buildings.

Currently, the only developer which has not yet signed the contract is Abbey Developments.

Gove warned developers that those who refuse to sign the contract or fail to comply with its terms face "significant consequences".
