The project — known as The Keep — is at Copthorne Keep, where Bellway is building 224 homes on what was the site of Copthorne Barracks from 1881 to 2015.
The armoury building is of architectural and historic interest and was an integral part of the former Copthorne Barracks site, which was built as part of national military reforms during the 1870s.
The building has a distinctive design, with a square footprint and two projecting staircase towers on opposing corners, and has been sensitively converted in a way which maintains its imposing external appearance.

Marie Richards, sales director at Bellway West Midlands, said: “When we set about planning this development, we knew that the former armoury building was going to be something special.
“With expert tradespeople working on the project, we have preserved and protected this historic building even as we have transformed it.
“We have created distinctive properties here that have incredible character with all the benefits of a new-build home.
“The building is imposing and impressive, as you would expect from a former armoury, yet inside it has a contemporary, comfortable style.
“The apartments at The Keep are energy efficient with zoned heating systems and each one has its own EV charging point, while it’s a gated complex with a video entry system, which gives added security.”
