Builders appointed to £40m Manchester PBSA

GMI Construction has been appointed principal contractor to a £40m PBSA scheme in Manchester.

Tiger Developments selected GMI for the Carmoor Road development which will provide 172 student bedrooms across a mix of studio and cluster arrangements.

Once completed, for the 2027/28 academic year, it will be operated by Host Student Housing.

Hampshire Trust Bank has provided funding for this scheme which will take shape over two interconnected buildings and targeted BREEAM Excellent and EPC A ratings.

Approximately 15% of rooms will be offered at discounted market rent.

“We are delighted to have been appointed principal contractor for this exciting new development in Manchester, and bring extensive experience in delivering high-quality projects across the region,” said Phillip Johnson, regional director for the North West at GMI.

“We will work closely with Tiger Developments to ensure the project is delivered to the highest standards throughout construction.”

Andrew Dignum, senior director of development finance at Hampshire Trust Bank, added: “By combining our shared expertise and aligned vision, we are bringing forward a well-designed and sustainable development that responds to clear demand in one of the UK’s strongest student markets.

“This collaboration reflects our commitment to building long-term partnerships with experienced teams to create lasting value.”
