Bath Rugby’s stadium development has been given a boost following a court ruling…

The Recreation Ground Trust’s appeal to the Upper Tribunal of the Royal Court of Justice to a previous judgement made by the Lower Tribunal has been allowed.

In March 2014, the Lower Tribunal limited the Recreation Ground Trustees’ powers, including their ability to lease extra land to the club beyond what was currently used for the East stand.

Tarquin McDonald, Managing Director of Bath Rugby, said the club was delighted by the outcome of the Recreation Ground Trust’s appeal which has opened the door to redevelopment.

“While we recognise there is still a long way to go, today's decision is an incredibly positive step forward for both the Club and the City of Bath,” said Tarquin.

“As we head into our 150th season, we remain committed to providing a world-class sporting, community and cultural venue in the heart of the city, and for the city.

“The Club looks forward to working with the Recreation Ground Trust, together with other stakeholders including B&NES and residents of Bath, on a long term solution for the Rec."
