A Labour MP has claimed that Conservative ministers are not doing enough to tackle with current housing crisis.

Commenting after the government announced a £140m package for the redevelopment of council housing estates, John Healey MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Housing and Planning, said he welcomed the money but claimed the government was actually cutting investment.
“Any extra to help councils build new homes is welcome but Conservative ministers have halved housing investment since 2010 and are doing too little to deal with the country’s housing pressures,” said the MP.
The claims came after David Cameron announced plans to transform housing estates, create new housing zones and unveiled a £1.2bn fund to build starter homes on unused brownfield land.
Mr Healey has previously attacked the Prime Minister on housing policy and was also critical of a scheme to create 30,000 starter homes announced at the beginning of this year.
“Another week, another housing announcement,” he added.
“If press statements built new homes the government would have the housing crisis sorted.
“People simply won’t see this small-scale scheme stretched over 100 estates making much difference to the housing problems in their area.”
