A former nuclear bunker in Northern Ireland is up for sale with an offer price of £575,000.

The “unique” property, in Ballymena, County Antrim, was designed and constructed in the late 1980s as part of the British Government’s Nuclear Civil Defence Planning, and opened in 1990.

It is believed to be one of the last and most technically advanced bunkers built in the UK.

The 48,000 sq ft bunker is set on a 3.7 acre site and has two levels, with the lower floor completely underground.

It includes dormitories to provide living accommodation for up to 236 people, a BBC audio visual broadcasting facility, kitchen facilities and an array of life systems including air filtration plants, back-up generators and water storage tanks.

The structure has been maintained in a state of readiness but, in the event of a nuclear attack, it can be operated in a ‘closed down’ state for around a month.

The property has been brought to market by Lambert Smith Hampton and can be viewed here.
